I've used March spring tides for beach recce's for a very long time — it always pays off in the long run. Why March? Recently two of us decided to go and recce a section of coast at low water springs - we took maps and cameras and drew out the features in relation to coastal landmarks. There have been enough cliff falls that the ones we did fifteen years back are badly out of date. Go at very low tide and when you have found a feature turn round and look at the cliff behind. Pace out the distance if it seems important. Take photo's and take notes. You have to be able to find the same spot when everything you're looking at is covered by water. |
