Emergency WormsWorms are scared of moles. If you can convince them that a mole is coming they will scatter out of the way — in the process some will crawl out on the surface. This is a great standby and one of the best ways of gathering the smaller worms. I use a strong bankstick when I'm coarse fishing or a whittled bit of bankside debris. Except in drought conditions you never need to be short of a worm. Take a sharp stick, push it into the ground so that the point is well below the surface. Wiggle it back and forth. After a few minutes move to a new position about a yard away and then to a third, keep your holes close together. This brings the worms to the surface. Do not try and pick them up until they have come clean out of their holes. |
